Learning Goals
- Get to know the members of your class
What You’ll Need to Know
The box at the top of the page entitled Learning Goals will include a list of skills you’ll need to learn about before attempting the upcoming section of coursework. You may already know some of them, others may sound familiar, but many of them will be new concepts to you. Each assignment and activity is designed to help you practice and master these important skills.
The Background You’ll Need Activity acts as a bridge between your prior exposure to concepts and what the course needs you to know as a foundation for successfully completing the material. Each course section will include a Learn It assignment that you will complete on your own before class, followed by an Apply It activity that you will complete together with your classmates (this depends on the delivery and structure of your class – in-person, online, hybrid, pairs, small groups, independent). You can then take a quick Self-Check assessment to gauge your understanding of the content, and jump into the Dig Deeper if you need more materials to help further explain the concepts. There is also a Practice assignment to complete for each section, which your instructor may assign as homework.
Who are the People in Your Neighborhood?
In this activity, you will spend some time getting to know the “people in your neighborhood.” In this course, your classroom is your neighborhood.
Start out by interviewing your classmates. Each time you find a match, write your classmate’s name and put an X on the corresponding box on the bingo card. The first to find matches across, horizontally, or diagonally wins! Depending on the size of your class, your instructor may ask you to fill out the entire card.
