\r\n\r\nCommunity medicine, the\u00a0delivery of health services to the individual and family and Public health have vastly different missions.\u00a0The mission of Public Health includes the delivery of community medicine services; surveillance of diseases; environmental protection; epidemiology; public education and information services, as well as immunization programs.\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n

The relationship of Public health and medicine as partners in health care have historically included barriers of organization, operation, and financing.\u00a0Although public health and medicine has a long history of division,\u00a0collaboration is happening more often, particularly in light of the national health care insurance debate.<\/p>\r\nConsider the historical perspectives of medicine and public health including the early contributions to public health such as treatment of illness, dating back to ancient times.\u00a0Nineteenth and early twentieth century advances in health\u00a0involved food safety, sanitation, and family planning. Late 20th century advances shifted to medical interventions and technology.\u00a0Prevention, rather than treatment, was slow to be accepted and prioritized by the medical community.\u00a0Progress against infectious disease and the shift\u00a0of chronic diseases as leading risks and killers, led to improved relationships between community medicine\u00a0and public health.\r\n\r\nExplore the growth of medical care resources and its resultant\u00a0challenges\u00a0for the public health community:\u00a0monitoring and protecting against threats to health and safety and promoting healthier lifestyles. Improving the relationship between community medicine and public health will require collaborative leadership,\u00a0professional education, performance measures,\u00a0incentive structures and changes to national health care funding to link financing.\r\n

Public Health And Community Medicine As Partners<\/h3>\r\nPublic health and medicine work together as\u00a0partners.\u00a0Rising prices, changing disease patterns, and increasing use of sophisticated technology for diagnosis and treatment have necessitated\u00a0community medicine and public health\u00a0partnerships.\r\n\r\nAmong the elements of successful Community Medicine and Public Health partnerships are a\u00a0legal and regulatory framework \u0083 with minimum standards for quality of services;\u00a0\u00a0transparency and monitoring provides\u0083 social accountability\u00a0;\u00a0continuity of policy helps to avoid duplication;\u00a0\u00a0sharing of resources\u0083 mutually benefits both partners;\u00a0cost sharing\u00a0and responsibility reduces financial burden; communication and\u00a0 sharing information, \u00a0manpower and financial resources improve quality of care.\r\n
