Reading and Assignments
This week’s lab is based on the equilibrium expressions for weak acids and bases. Students will use a series of solutions to determine the [H+], [OH–], pH, POH and K. Students should be able to see that the K value for a compound does NOT change while the ion concentration values DO change.
Objectives: After completing this week’s assignments you will be able to:
- Determine the pH and pOH for a solution of a weak acid or weak base.
- Calculate the [H+] in a solution.
- Determine the value of weak acids and base equilibrium constants (Ka and Kb)
- Compare if or how the [H+] and Ka values change with weak acid concentration.
