Now that you have an understanding of what we mean by “law” and “the legal system,” you will learn about three specific areas of the law that affect businesses, their customers, and the environment within which they operate. What actions are permissible and prohibited, as well as the obligations, rights, and remedies available under the law, are determined by the type of law that is applicable to the situation. The three most common areas of the law (statutory, common, and tort law) are the focus of this section.
