In this session, we will focus in on goal writing and next steps. There are different types of goals short term, mid term and long term goals. When you hear someone talking about a 5 year plan, this is a long term goal. They do not wait until year 5 gets here to begin working on this. They take this larger goal that takes time and breaks it down into smaller more attainable step by step goals. Short term goals can be accomplished in days or weeks, mid term weeks to months and long term months to years. In your journal this week you will notice numerous objectives are wrapped up into one assignment. It asks you to dream a bit and visualize accomplishing your biggest dream and it also asks you to form concrete steps to get you to this place in your life. The more detailed the more real it seems and empowering it becomes. Follow the SMART goals outline when setting your goals, check out the reading in Lumen to help with both of these points and more to help with this. We will be re-addressing the SMART goals in Discussion Board 3 and again in Project B, which is when you may want to utilize the SMART goals worksheet.
Your career timeline can be made up of many criteria. You best know what path you want to take. And if you are unsure this is the perfect time to be seeking out more information. The earlier a student registers the better chance they are able to enroll in a class of their day/time/location preference. Once you have the steps for your next couple semesters down continue on to research the careers of your choice and pay special attention in tracking down the following things. Think of it as a bit of a scavenger hunt to your college career.
