Matt Cutts: Try Something New for 30 days
Stuck in a rut? Try something new for 30 days.
Prioritizing
Prioritizing is key. If we imagine a bowl and we fill it up with big rocks, then pebbles and then sugar it all fits. But if we go in the opposite order and begin with the sugar first we run out of room for the big rocks and pebbles – try it! Now most people would do this activity with sand since it seems to fit the rocks and pebbles theme. I like to use sugar. If we think of sugar as the sweet stuff in life (texting, Netflix, e-mail, hanging with friends, Twitter, video games, etc.) those things easily fill up our time and do so quickly, before we know it an hour or more has passed! If we get up in the morning and start our days with too many of these not urgent and not important items half the day is gone before we realize it. But if we start with the important projects and priorities of the day (big rocks) we get these done and all of the little things on our to do list (pebbles) plus still have time for the sweet stuff (sugar). There is a balance there and we still had plenty of time for the things we enjoy plus we got our work done too. But if we start with the fun items we quickly run out of space in our day, and our bowl, for the big items.
