{"id":911,"date":"2018-06-22T17:31:57","date_gmt":"2018-06-22T17:31:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/courses.lumenlearning.com\/collegesuccess2x48x112-5\/?post_type=chapter&p=911"},"modified":"2023-01-03T23:10:18","modified_gmt":"2023-01-03T23:10:18","slug":"m04-overview-educational-goals","status":"publish","type":"chapter","link":"https:\/\/courses.lumenlearning.com\/collegesuccess2x48x112-5\/chapter\/m04-overview-educational-goals\/","title":{"raw":"M04 Overview: Educational Goals","rendered":"M04 Overview: Educational Goals"},"content":{"raw":"In this session, we will focus in on goal writing and next steps.\u00a0 There are different types of goals short term, mid term and long term goals.\u00a0 When you hear someone talking about a 5 year plan, this is a long term goal.\u00a0 They do not wait until year 5 gets here to begin working on this.\u00a0 They take this larger goal that takes time and breaks it down into smaller more attainable step by step goals.\u00a0 Short term goals can be accomplished in days or weeks, mid term weeks to months and long term months to years.\u00a0 In your journal this week you will notice numerous objectives are wrapped up into one assignment.\u00a0 It asks you to dream a bit and visualize accomplishing your biggest dream and it also asks you to form concrete steps to get you to this place in your life. The more detailed the more real it seems and empowering it becomes.\u00a0 Follow the SMART goals outline when setting your goals, check out the reading in Lumen to help with both of these points and more to help with this.\u00a0 We will be re-addressing the SMART goals in Discussion Board 3 and again in Project B, which is when you may want to utilize the SMART goals worksheet.\r\n<\/span>\r\n\r\nYour career timeline can be made up of many criteria. You best know what path you want to take.\u00a0 And if you are unsure this is the perfect time to be seeking out more information.\u00a0 This process may start by deciding upon a major.\u00a0 For a list of divisions, schools and majors through out the state check out<\/span> http:\/\/ivytech.edu\/11299.html<\/a><\/span><\/span>\u200b <\/span><\/span><\/span>\r\n\r\nReviewing this information is a great first step in your timeline.\u00a0 Registering for class for the next semester would be a positive second step.\u00a0 The earlier a student registers the better chance they are able to enroll in a class of their day\/time\/location preference.\u00a0 Students can register for an appointment with their advisor under the Student Services section of Campus Connect.\u00a0 Visit the Ivy Advising site and select your location to set up appointments with a variety of campus resources.\r\n<\/span>\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/www.ivytech.edu\/advising\/index.html<\/a>\r\n\r\nOnce you have the steps for your next couple semesters down continue on to research the careers of your choice and pay special attention in tracking down the following things.\u00a0 Think of it as a bit of a scavenger hunt to your college career.<\/span>\r\n
