We want to determine how much he spent on food for the party, here is his list:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>3 cakes at $20.15 each<\/li>\r\n \t<li>[latex]1\\Large\\frac{1}{2}[\/latex] pounds of almonds at $5.99 per pound<\/li>\r\n \t<li>[latex]\\Large\\frac{1}{4}[\/latex] pound of spices at $7.60 per pound<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/courses-images\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2302\/2017\/04\/15000458\/almond-brown-close-up-dry-41185.jpeg\"><img class=\"wp-image-14809 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/courses-images\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2302\/2017\/04\/15000458\/almond-brown-close-up-dry-41185-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"Metal bin of almonds with a scoop in it.\" width=\"467\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a>\r\n\r\nIn the module, we learned how to multiply decimals with integers, fractions and mixed numbers, so we can definitely answer this question using our new skills.\r\n\r\nThe cost of the three cakes will be:\r\n\r\n[latex]3\\cdot 20.15=60.45[\/latex]\r\n\r\nTo find the cost of the almonds, we can convert the mixed number to a decimal first, then multiply:\r\n\r\n[latex]1\\Large\\frac{1}{2} = \\frac{3}{2} \\normalsize = 1.5[\/latex] now multiply by the price of the almonds:\r\n\r\n[latex]1.5\\cdot5.99 = 8.985 = 8.99[\/latex] rounding to the nearest cent.\r\n\r\nNext, we will find the cost of [latex]\\Large\\frac{1}{4}[\/latex] pound of spices:\r\n\r\n[latex]\\Large\\frac{1}{4}\\normalsize=0.25[\/latex]\r\n\r\n[latex]0.25\\cdot 7.60=1.90[\/latex]\r\n\r\nWe can sum the three costs together to find the total Andrew spent on extras for the party:\r\n\r\n[latex]60.45+8.99+1.90=71.34[\/latex]\r\n\r\nAndrew spent $71.34 on extras for the dinner party.\r\n<h2>Contribute!<\/h2><div style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\">Did you have an idea for improving this content?
