Learning Outcomes
By the end of this section, you will be able to:
- Recall the rules for simplifying expressions containing exponents
- Recall the slope-intercept form of a linear function
- Recall the processes for operations on fractions by hand
In this module, you’ll be introduced to a new operator and new notation, formulas, and processes. Of course, since topics in mathematics build upon what you’ve learned before, it will be helpful to brush up on a few concepts before beginning.
Recall the rules for simplifying expressions containing exponents. They appeared initially in Module 1: Algebra Essentials and you encountered them again as part of the Review for Success in Module 11. Feel free to return for a refresher as needed.
You’ll also need a good understanding of the slope-intercept form of a linear equation since sequences can be visualized as discrete inputs and outputs on the real plane. These appeared in Module 3: The Rectangular Coordinate System and Equations of Lines.
Finally, skill with operations on fractions by hand will help the upcoming module be less challenging. You saw these in the Review Topics for Success in Module 1: Algebra Essentials and they have reappeared several times again throughout the course.
Warm up for this module by refreshing important concepts and skills you’ll need for success. As you study these review topics, recall that you can also return to Algebra Essentials any time you need to refresh the basics.
Recall for success
Look for red boxes like this one throughout the text. They’ll show up just in time to give helpful reminders of the math you’ll need, right where you’ll need it.
