In this discussion, you’ll explore what it means to be academically honest, consider the consequences of plagiarism, and examine its impact on students, instructors, and the value of a college education.
Discussion Instructions
STEP 1: What does it mean to be academically honest as a writer in college? In a post of at least 250 words, take a clear stance on academic honesty by addressing the following:
- What consequences, if any, should students face for plagiarism or other forms of academic dishonesty?
- Why do you feel this way? Support your position with reasoning, evidence, or personal experiences.
- How does plagiarism impact students, instructors, and the value of a college education?
STEP 2: Respond to two classmates’ posts (in at least 75 words each). Beyond simply agreeing or disagreeing with their stance, engage thoughtfully by doing one or more of the following:
- Extend their point with new evidence, examples, or perspectives.
- Bring up a counterpoint, exception, or challenging question.
- Offer a new approach or highlight an overlooked factor.
Aim for meaningful discussion—your response should show that you are thinking critically about their perspective, not just restating or summarizing their ideas.
