This Composition Course contains twelve modules and twelve sub-modules—roughly one module per week for a fifteen-week semester, plus extra time to slow down or stretch out specific modules. The Writing Workshop modules expound upon and provide additional practice for the information presented in the original module, so it’s recommended that those pieces remain together. Many assign the Writing Workshops to students alongside the core modules as part of their weekly expectations, while some use the writing workshops as supplemental or optional material.
The modules can easily be re-arranged or deleted.
Sequence 1 shows how the course is currently organized, with the “Grammar Basics” module placed at the end of the content, more as an appendix and/or supplemental resource. Some instructors ignore this module entirely, while others like to pull pieces of it into other modules of the course.
Sequence 2 moves both of the Grammar modules to the front of the course, and also splits up the two modules about the Writing Process so that the process in introduced, then the revising and proofreading stage is moved to the end of the course.
Sequence 3 switches the modules on Writing in College and Writing Essentials and keeps the final Writing Process module about proofreading towards the end of the course, before grammar at the very end.
