Introduction to Academic Argument

What you’ll learn to do: explain how to build an academic argument

Woman presenting an idea with a white board

In this Writing Workshop, you will practice the overlapping and integrated skills of building an argument. You will begin by evaluating some arguments and start building an argument of your own as you go. Then you will move on to building a thesis that is: debatable, assertive, reasonable, evidence-based, and focused.

Once you have practiced developing a thesis and reviewed the structures and elements of an argument, you will feel more confident about your ability to persuade readers through your writing and take on the prompts given by your instructor.
