Summary<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<\/div>\r\nYou have learned that the purpose of this book is to not only introduce the academic field of Communication but also to define the term \"communication.\" We also explored how the various elements of the process of communication operate and flow intentionally and unintentionally in organizations.\r\n\r\nSmith, Laswell, and Casey offer a simple definition of Communication study: \u201cwho says what, through what channels (media) of communication, to whom, [and] what will be the results\u201d (121). Now you can provide an answer to those who ask you what Communication study is about.\r\n\r\nOur definition of communication <\/b>is\u00a0the process of using symbols to exchange meaning t<\/i>hat we use\u00a0throughout the book. The linear and transactional models of communication act as a visual representations of both communication study and communication. Finally, you are now aware of the importance of studying communication and how it impacts your life personally, socially, and professionally.\r\n
