They may have drawn stick figures with spears, or a woolly mammoth in the distance about to become dinner. In the next series of drawings, the mammoth has been struck, the stick figure looming over him. In a third series, a gathering of stick figures at a fire, presented with a feast.\n\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5298\" src=\"https:\/\/s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/courses-images\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2785\/2018\/02\/30231424\/cavepaintings-1024x397.png\" alt=\"A two part image. The second part shows a cave drawing of two stick figure men on red rocks\" width=\"1024\" height=\"397\">\n\nThere is beauty and clarity in the simplicity of the prehistoric man\u2019s drawings. You understand his hunting victory even though he\u2019s used no words. Prehistoric man was on to something with this approach.\n\nFast forward to today where studies have been done on the impact of visual aids:\n<ul>\n \t<li>Only 70 percent of people reading labels on medicine containers understand the instructions when they are written in text form, but that understanding increases to 95 percent when the text is accompanied by images.[footnote]Dowse, R. &amp; Ehlers, M. (2005). <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/15950838\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Medicine labels incorporating pictograms: Do they influence understanding and adherence?<\/a>, Patient Education and Counseling, Vol 58, Issue 1.[\/footnote]<\/li>\n \t<li>People follow written directions 323 percent better when the images accompany the instructions.[footnote]Levie, W. But does it help you make a point or sell an idea? In an age in which we humans are asked to process more information than we have ever processed before, let\u2019s look at today\u2019s trends:\n<ul>\n \t<li>People are 80 percent more likely to engage with content when it features color visuals.[footnote]Green, R.
