For this assessment, you will create a poster using the program of your choice (a single page Word or slide in PowerPoint is recommended). You will investigate a resource, how it is used and how it is mined. You will also discuss the impact this resource use has on society. Remember to access the tips and hints at the bottom of the page.
Basic Requirements (assignment criteria):
1. Choose from the following list of minerals and mineral resources that we currently mine:
Coal | Granite |
Oil | Gold |
Natural Gas | Copper |
Limestone | Any metallic ore such as nickel |
- On your poster include the following:
- How the resource is currently used
- If the resource is renewable or non-renewable. If nonrenewable, state any renewable alternatives
- How the resource is typically mined
- The environmental and societal impacts or side effects of this techniques
- Any advances in mining to improve the technique(s) used for this resource
- Make sure you cite any resources you may use in the appropriate format, including pictures. Remember to not only list references but cite WITHIN the text itself.
Please note—the text is cited within the body of the work and not just listed as references. It is important to remember to cite within the body of the text so it easy to tell what information came from what source. If you do not cite within the text, it is a form of plagiarism and will negatively impact your grade.
- You can use a separate page or slide to list your references on so you don’t take away space from your poster.
- Make sure your name is on the document before saving.
