What you’ll learn to do: Identify symmetry of a function
Have you ever seen an eaglet standing in water? We can see its mirrored image on the surface of water. The image is the same but upside-down. The word “symmetry” is from Ancient Greek συμμετρία (summetría) that means ‘agreement in dimensions, due proportion, arrangement. In everyday language, it refers to a sense of harmonious and beautiful proportion and balance. [1] Symmetry is useful when we graph a function because we can graph it by knowing only a portion of it. However, not every function is symmetric, and there is more than one kind of symmetry in function. In this section, we will think about symmetry of a function.
