If someone is traveling 50 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour speed zone, we can say that they are traveling twice the speed limit. That is an example of a ratio form of measurement. But not all data can be compared in this way. There are different levels of measurement, and they require different types of analysis. Is going 50 miles per hour typical or unusual? To answer this question, we would group the data to see how often a particular value occurs. This allows us to draw conclusions about what is typical and what is unusual.
