Learning Outcomes
By the end of this section, you will be able to:
- Use the order of operations to evaluate algebraic expressions
- Express verbal comparisons of two population parameters as mathematical expressions
In this module, you will continue the study of hypothesis testing, now in the context of comparing two populations. For example, a child psychologist may wonder if the amount of time spent playing outdoors is the same for children in urban versus rural environments. To prepare for formulas used for testing these hypotheses we’ll review the order of operations in the context of expressions involving fractions, exponents, and radicals. We’ll also practice translating verbal statements comparing two population parameters into mathematical expressions.
Recall for success
Look for red boxes like this one throughout the text. They’ll show up just in time to give helpful reminders of the math you’ll need, right where you’ll need it.
