Learning Outcomes
By the end of this section, you will be able to:
- Solve single-step inequalities
- Solve multi-step inequalities
- Solve compound inequalities involving “or,” and express solutions both graphically and with interval notation
- Solve compound inequalities involving “and,” and express solutions both graphically and with interval notation
In this module, you will begin the study of hypothesis testing. That is when information from a sample is used to test claims about a population. For example, if a car manufacturer claims that the fuel economy of a particular car model is 21 mpg and a consumer organization reports that their study of this model of cars found the fuel economy to be 18 mpg, is the manufacturer’s statement incorrect? Or, is this because the consumer organization just looked at a sample of cars rather than all the cars of this model produced by the manufacturer?
Recall for success
Look for red boxes like this one throughout the text. They’ll show up just in time to give helpful reminders of the math you’ll need, right where you’ll need it.
