Module 1: Module Overview, Introduction, Learning Objectives and Content

Welcome to SCIN 111 – Physical Science!

What is this course all about? What is science and why is it important to us?

This module is devoted to introductions! You will be introduced to the setup of this IvyLearn course, a closer introduction to your syllabus, and you will receive a brief introduction to the topics of the scientific method and the metric system. These two areas of information can be carried over into other science courses you may take at a later date. Good luck this semester. Let’s get started!

Module 1: Learning Objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the understanding of the layout of this course and the syllabus.
  • Identify where the syllabus is located for this course.
  • State how you would solve a technical issue.
  • Identify the way you are to contact the instructor.
  • Identify the location of the discussion boards.

Objectives

Objective 1

  • Apply the scientific method of inquiry, including analysis based on scientific concepts and observation.
  • List the basic steps of the scientific method.
  • Given a scenario, list the correlating information in comparison to the basic steps of the scientific method.

Objective 2

  • Use and convert physical quantities and measurements in both the SI and USCS units systems.
  • Recognize the appropriate uses of SI and USCS for mass, length, volume and temperature.
  • Using the given quantities solve for the following SI or USCS unit.
  • Convert the metric problems given in the practice worksheet.

Module Content

In this module you will take a look at the overall set up of the course. You will also take time to go over the SI and USCS system and the scientific method. These last two topics will be helpful in any science class you take during your college career.
