Instructor Guide: Applications of Bar Graphs: Corequisite Support

While this support activity is designed for a face-to-face, synchronous delivery, it should be noted that supporting text and interactive examples have been embedded in the digital assignment page to assist asynchronous or hybrid course delivery and to be made more accessible to students performing make-up work.

Notes for synchronous active-learning delivery

In this corequisite support activity, students will practice reading bar charts that represent percentages, reading stacked bar charts, and computing absolute and relative changes in percentages represented in bar charts. The key point is that the data are percentages, but this gets a little tricky with absolute and relative change. The units of
absolute change in percentages are percentage points, while relative change is unitless.

See the student digital activity page for extra support with prerequisite knowledge for handing absolute change and relative change.
