Corequisite Support Activity for 1A: The Need for Statistics

Learning Goals

In this support activity you’ll become familiar with the following:

  • Get to know the members of your class.

Welcome to the course!  A page like this one, called the Corequisite Support Activity, will accompany each section of learning materials.

What You’ll Need to Know

The space at the top of the page entitled Learning Goals will normally include a list of skills or concepts you’ll need to learn about before attempting the upcoming section of coursework. You may already know some of them, others may be familiar, but many of them will be unfamiliar to you. This support activity is designed to help you obtain these skills and concepts as you begin each section of learning materials.

After the first couple of introductory sections, each course section will include a What to Know assignment (that you’ll complete on your own before class) followed by a Forming Connections activity to complete together with your classmates in pairs or small groups. A homework or practice assignment will complete each course section. The Corequisite Support Activity acts like a buffer between your prior knowledge and what the course assumes you know by providing the foundation you’ll need to successfully complete its related assignment, activity, and practice.

During the first few days of class, as you get settled, there may not always be a What to Know assignment before the activity. There isn’t one for this section or the next, so for now have fun getting to know your classmates!

Who are the People in Your Neighborhood?

In this corequisite support activity, you will spend some time getting to know the “people in your neighborhood.” In this course, your classroom is your neighborhood.

Start out by interviewing your classmates. Each time you find a match, write your classmate’s name and put an X on the corresponding box on the bingo card. The first to find matches across, horizontally, or diagonally wins!
