Accounting A.A.S. (AC01)

Curricular Requirements

Team-based projects Almost all business courses and some liberal arts electives require team projects.
Curricular nuances This degree is NOT for students who want to be accountants or get a 4-year accounting degree. Advisors should plan out students’ schedules over many semesters as the courses rotate one semester evening and then one semester days.
Coursework availability 75% of program offered online
200-level accounting courses such as cost, intermediate, tax, payroll and Quickbooks not offered online

Most common transfer school(s) This is NOT a transfer program. NOT for students who want to be accountants. Degree qualifies students for bookkeeping jobs (accounts receivable/payable, payroll, general bookkeeping, and inventory management) with starting wages of $13-$14 per hour.

Business Administration A.S. (BU01)

Curricular Requirements

Team-based projects Almost all business courses and some liberal arts electives require team projects.
Internships/experiential learning Many transfer schools require internships/coops
Curricular nuances Program has a math elective, which should be MTH 200 Applied Calculus. Students should also try to take MTH 161 at MCC if they have an open elective.
Coursework availability 100% of program offered online.

Computer Information Systems A.A.S. (CI01) 

Curricular Requirements

Required equipment/supplies Students should have a computer and/or lap top with Microsoft Office.
Team-based projects Almost all business courses and some liberal arts electives require team projects.
Curricular nuances BUS 275 Business Co-op are offered Spring only and online only. BUS 275 requires students to get a co-op placement which provides at least 90 hours of practical work experience. MCC Career Services might be able to assist students in finding a co-op.
Coursework availability 60% of program offered online
Only CIS 201 Web Development is offered online. The other 6 CIS courses are not offered online as they require lab time. Advisors need to plan many semesters in advance as the CIS courses rotate between evening and day offerings depending on the semester.

CIS (also same as MIS – management information systems) is a program that teaches students how to use technology to solve business problems. There are many positions as a computer support specialist or help desk support for graduates starting at $17-$18 per hour.

NO CIS courses needed for this program are offered online.
Advisors need to plan many semesters in advance as the CIS courses rotate between evening and day offerings depending on the semester.

CIS (also same as MIS – management information systems) is a program that teaches students how to use technology to solve business problems. MIS is a fast growing field with job growth and increasing starting salaries.

Capstone projects Bus 210 (offered online and Spring only) requires the development of a complete business plan for the business the student plans to start or is presently operating.
Team-based projects Almost all business courses and some liberal arts electives require team projects.
Curricular nuances BUS 210 Entrepreneurial Studies II and BUS 275 Business Co-op are offered Spring only and online only
For BUS 275 students need to find a co-op position that provides 90 hours of work experience – MCC’s Career Services may be able to assist with placement.

Capstone projects BUS 250 is the capstone course that has many prerequisites (see catalog) and is ONLY offered during Spring semester.

BUS 250 has two team projects.
Internships/experiential learning Many transfer schools require internships/coops outside the U.S. and many require or highly recommend study abroad.
Curricular nuances Though MTH 200 is not required in MCC’s degree, students may want to take at MCC or will be required to take at transfer school.
