As a result lymph accumulates in tissues and leads to swollen \u201celephant-like\u201d body parts. (Roundworms are contracted through mosquitoes)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Tonsillitis \u2013 inflammation of the tonsils caused by bacteria<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nNoninfectious Disorders\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Allergy\/Hypersensitivity \u2013 abnormally intense immune response to an antigen that may be harmless to most people (these antigens are called allergens)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>o Immediate reaction \u2013 occurs when the allergen binds with the IgE antibody in the presence of basophils and mast cells and results in the release of histamines. This stimulates the inflammatory response. The response may be localized (hay fever, hives, allergy-based asthma) which is rarely fatal or systemic (involves the entire body). Systemic responses can be severe and life threatening. May result in anaphylaxis \u2013 condition that impairs respiration and can lead to circulatory failure because of a drastic drop in blood pressure. Allergic reactions to penicillin and bee stings may be systemic.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>o Delayed allergic reactions \u2013 appear 1 to 3 days after exposure. Caused mainly by cytokines released by sensitized T cells. Poison ivy and certain chemicals cause delayed reactions.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Autoimmune Diseases \u2013 the immune system does not distinguish between self and nonself; antibodies and T cells attack and damage its own tissues<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>o Common Autoimmune Diseases:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Multiple sclerosis (MS) \u2013 destroys the myelin sheaths of the brain and spinal cord<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Myasthenia gravis \u2013 impairs communication between nerves and skeletal muscles; as a result, muscles are weakened (drooping eyelids, difficulty in swallowing, talking, overall muscle fatigue)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Type 1 diabetes \u2013 destroys pancreatic Beta cells that produce insulin<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) \u2013 systemic disease that affects the kidneys, heart, lungs, and skin<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) \u2013 systematically destroys joints<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Lymphoma \u2013 any tumor of the lymphatic tissue; one type of malignant lymphoma is Hodgkin\u2019s disease \u2013 characterized by enlarged lymph nodes, fatigue, fever, and night sweats.
