Strategic Planning Assignment

For this assignment it is important that you have read and understand the reading assignment, in particular review the sections on the SWOT analysis and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) matrix.

Instructions

  1. Review industry analyst IDC’s report on market share for cell phone provides. Note that the report includes data both by type of operating system the phone uses, and by vendor.
  2. Select one vendor, and if possible, one specific phone. Answer the following questions:
  • Where does the product fall on the BCG matrix? Is it a star, a dog, a cash cow or a question mark. Why?
  • Identify one strength, weakness, opportunity and threat for the product or vendor.

Be clear in your distinction between strengths and opportunities, and weaknesses and threats.
