Do you remember any\u00a0specific thoughts? Were you excited about the idea? What began to draw you into the web of college life? What compels you to be here now?\u00a0Your decision to come to college was likely related to your career in one way or another. \u00a0You may have come to college to gain knowledge or training that will help you in your prospective career. You may have come to college to figure out what you want your career to be.\r\n\r\nSo how to do you go from college to a career? Here are some basic \"steps.\"\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li><strong>Self-Examination.<\/strong>\u00a0Take the time to critically look at yourself\u2014your hobbies and skills. What do you enjoy? What are you good at? What jobs can these apply to?<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Explore.<\/strong>\u00a0If you don't know what you want to do, take the time to instead explore your options. If you can, take introductory classes\u2014these types of classes often give a broad introduction to\u00a0fields of\u00a0study. If that isn't an option, you can also talk to an academic counselor about your different options. There are also a vast number of personality and job aptitude tests available.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Find a Mentor. <\/strong>Find\u00a0someone who's already\u00a0established in their career (wether they work\u00a0in your field or not). Having a mentor who's already established themselves can be\u00a0extremely helpful\u2014especially when you come up against setbacks. They've likely faced similar situations, and they can give you the perspective and advice you need. These types of mentors\u00a0can be a parent, a teacher, a school counselor.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Find experiences.<\/strong> try it out. you may think you want to do something but you find you can't actually stand doing it once you get into a work setting.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nIt is important to note that these steps don't always\u00a0happen in this order, and sometimes you may find yourself suddenly back at step one\u2014examining yourself all over again to figure out what you want to do.
