However, if children display marked problems or difficulties in one (or\u00a0more) developmental area(s), and their performance shows significant discrepancies\u00a0compared with other children of the same age, it is advisable to refer the children for a professional assessment.\r\n\r\nIn general, there are three ways to identify children with special needs.\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>In the case of newborns or infants, early diagnostic tests can determine specific developmental or medical conditions.
