I assign a low stakes Impromptu speech in week two to get the students warmed up to the idea of getting in front of the audience.  Students are given their topic around five minutes before delivery.  Topic ideas range from “Three ways to eat an oreo” to “Why you should vote for me for President.”

I usually assign around 15 points to this assignment.  I like to add in some low stakes speeches for practice.
