These are not already built into the assignment tool of your learning management system (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.), but they are listed below:\r\n<h2>1. Characterization<\/h2>\r\nList all the things you know about the main character of your book.\r\n<h2>2. Point of View<\/h2>\r\nRewrite a scene in which a secondary character appears, but now tell it from this character\u2019s point of view.\r\n<h2>3. Climax<\/h2>\r\nIdentify the climax in the story. List all the crises that led to this moment.\r\n<h2>4. Symbolism<\/h2>\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha;\">\r\n \t<li>Identify a recurring image in the story. Consider what that image represents, and why it was used more than one time.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Write a poem, using that image in your first line.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<h2>5. Diction<\/h2>\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha;\">\r\n \t<li>Copy your favorite line from the reading.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Memorize it.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Rewrite it, saying the same thing with entirely different words.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<h2>6. Vocabulary<\/h2>\r\nFind three words from the reading that are new to you. Write the definition of the word and then write a sentence that appropriately uses the word.\r\n<h2>7. Theme<\/h2>\r\nCompare and contrast the ways [name two authors] talk about [name theme] in the stories we read in class.\r\n<h2>8. Reading Response<\/h2>\r\nDiscuss what you see as the most striking, powerful, problematic, or detrimental features of the story. Explain your reaction to the text with specific examples.\r\n<h2>9. Setting<\/h2>\r\nThink about a setting of the story. Write a descriptive paragraph in first person, pretending that you are in that scene. What do you see, hear, smell, feel?\r\n<h2>10. Dialogue<\/h2>\r\nInsert dialogue tags and description into the following conversation:\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cMy mom is coming over.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cWhen?\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cYou don\u2019t need to get upset. She\u2019s just coming for a few nights.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cWhen?\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cI hate it when you do this. If you just gave her a chance, you\u2019d see that she\u2019s a good person.
