<strong>deriving the answer to your question <\/strong>from the information you gathered.\r\n\r\nResearch writing = the process of <strong>sharing the answer<\/strong> to your research question along with the <strong>evidence<\/strong> on which your answer is based, the <strong>sources<\/strong> you used, and your own <strong>reasoning<\/strong> and<strong> explanation<\/strong>.<\/blockquote>\r\nThe essential components or building blocks of research writing are the same no matter what kind of question you are answering or what kind of reader you are assuming as you share your answer.\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<h2><strong>The Essential Building Blocks of Research Writing<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li><strong><strong><strong>Do real research<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong>\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Begin from a question to which you don\u2019t know the answer and that can\u2019t be answered just by going to the appropriate reference source.\u00a0 That is, begin from a research question, not a homework question.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Decide what kind of information or data will be needed in order to build the answer to the question.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Gather information and\/or collect data.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Work with the information\/data to derive or construct your answer.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nThis is the <em>research process<\/em>, and it happens before you begin to write your paper.\u00a0 No research, no research writing, so don\u2019t shortchange this part of the process.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong><strong>Create a one-sentence answer to your research question.<\/strong><\/strong>\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>This will be the thesis statement\/main point\/controlling idea of your research paper.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Share your answer to research questions in a way that make it believable, understandable, and usable for your readers.<\/strong> \u00a0To do this\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Include plentiful and well-chosen examples from the data\/information you gathered<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Indicate the validity of your data by accurately reporting your research method (field or lab research)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Indicate the quality of your information by accurately citing your sources (source-based research)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Provide the \u00a0reasoning and
