The creation is a part of the B.C. Open Textbook project.\n\n<span itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/WebPage\"><span itemprop=\"text\">In October 2012, the B.C. Ministry of Advanced Education <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.news.gov.bc.ca\/news_releases_2009-2013\/2012aeit0010-001581.htm\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a>\u00a0its support for the creation of open textbooks for the 40 highest-enrolled first and second year subject areas in the province\u2019s public post-secondary system.<\/span><\/span>\n\n<span itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/WebPage\"><span itemprop=\"text\">Open Textbooks are open educational resources (OER); they are instructional resources created and shared in ways so that more people have access to them. That\u2019s a different model than traditionally copyrighted materials.
