For effective communication, you need to be aware of and communicate appropriately given your own and your audience's roles.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"size-medium wp-image-330 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/courses-images\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4022\/2019\/02\/28222116\/C-for-P-OER-2-300x213.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"213\" \/>For a brief example of the importance of roles, consider how you would phrase a simple request\u2014a request to view a document, for example\u2014of a supervisor, peer, and person whom you supervise in your organization.\r\n\r\nView the following video, which offers two versions of a situation.\u00a0 Stop the video at the brief pause and identify specific, ineffective communication strategies which could have been more effective with fuller acknowledgement of roles and the communication expectation assumed for each role.\u00a0 After the pause, watch the second scenario, and identify specific, more effective strategies that were made with fuller acknowledgement of roles.\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-FcNXc5b2i0\r\n<h2>Tone<\/h2>\r\nTone is the way in which you express your message.\u00a0 Tone in written communication is akin to tone of voice in spoken communication.
