And that\u2019s the purpose of the rationale essay: to explain the reasons why you've chosen the courses that are listed in\u00a0your degree plan. You\u2019ll need to provide different types of reasons\u2014personal, academic,\u00a0professional\u2014in order to explain your choices\u00a0for, and structure of, your\u00a0degree.\u00a0 Academic and professional \"reasons why\"\u00a0 are supported by evidence (which you will find through your research) that\u00a0your courses meet the expectations of the college, the field of study, and the larger professional contexts in which you intend to use your degree. It is likely that most students will develop their rationale early in their degree studies. Therefore, the rationale should be perceived as a planning (or prospective) document.
