This textbook provides an overview of the major social and political developments in Europe from the 1700s through the early 2000s. It shows how Europeans both were involved with and shaped by global events over the past 300 years. By connecting specific examples and brief excerpts from primary sources with important historical trends, this book provides a concise examination of such issues as the French Revolution, Industrial Revolution and its consequences, imperialism, the World Wars, Russian Revolution and postwar politics and life. Through this examination, it highlights themes of power, violence and exploitation. It also shows the relevance of many of these issues to the current society and in the shaping of modern Europe while also highlighting the controversies and debates associated with many of the topics.
