Identifying Pronouns<\/h2>\nAs you read the following passage, identify all of the pronouns, as well as what type of pronoun each is. Remember, there are four types of pronouns we learned about: personal, demonstrative, indefinite, and relative pronouns.\n

(1) Louis Charles Joseph Bl\u00e9riot (1872\u20131936) was a French aviator, inventor, and engineer. (2) In 1909, he<\/strong> became world famous for making the first flight across the English Channel in a heavier than air aircraft, winning a\u00a0prize of \u00a31,000 offered by the Daily Mail<\/em> newspaper. (3) The prize\u00a0was widely seen as a way to gain cheap publicity when it<\/strong>\u00a0was first announced by the paper\u2014no one<\/strong> thought this<\/b>\u00a0feat could actually be accomplished. (4) The Paris newspaper Le Matin<\/em> commented that there was no chance of the prize being won.     • It<\/em>\u00a0is a singular, subject case, neutral\u00a0third-person pronoun.<\/li>\n \t
    • No one<\/em> is an indefinite pronoun.<\/li>\n \t
    • This<\/em>\u00a0is a demonstrative\u00a0pronoun; in this instance it's being used like an adjective.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/li>\n \t
    • This sentence contains the relative\u00a0pronoun that<\/em>; it connects\u00a0commented<\/em> to the statement made by\u00a0Le Matin<\/em>.<\/li>\n \t
    • This sentence contains the indefinite\u00a0pronoun everyone<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n[\/hidden-answer]\n

      Finding the Antecedent<\/h2>\nIdentify the antecedents and pronouns in the following\u00a0examples:\n
      1. Somebody must have found my cell phone. He or she has been using up all my data!<\/li>\n \t
      2. People asked\u00a0Jorge\u00a0to review their papers so often that he started a\u00a0small editing business.<\/li>\n \t
      3. He's been talking for over two hours.\u00a0This is unbearable.<\/li>\n \t
      4. Henry called his parents every week.<\/li>\n \t

Adriana always ate the last piece of dessert, even if Mariana had saved it for Mariana.
