Delta nomenclature\r\n\r\n2. Omega nomenclature\r\n\r\n3. Common names\r\n\r\nThe omega nomenclature and common names are used more in the field of nutrition than the delta nomenclature when describing specific fatty acids.\r\n\r\n<b>1. Delta Nomenclature<\/b>\r\n\r\nFor delta nomenclature you need to know 3 things:\r\n\r\n1. Number of carbons in the fatty acid\r\n\r\n2. Number of double bonds\r\n\r\n3. If it is an 18 carbon saturated fatty acid, then it would be named 18:0.\r\n\r\nThis is written as shown in figure 2.332. Instead of an omega prefix, the prefix n- (i.e. n-3) is also commonly used.\r\n\r\n<b>3. Common Names<\/b>\r\n\r\nThe common names of fatty acids are something that, for the most part, have to be learned\/memorized.
