And while government is actively involved and provides support, its control is limited, which is good for structure.\r\n<h3><strong>The Details: The Advantages of a Mixed Economy<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>In a mixed economy, private businesses can decide how to run their businesses (e.g. what to produce, at what\u00a0price, who to employ, etc.).<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Consumers also have a choice in what they want to buy.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>In this\u00a0system, there is also less income inequality.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Monopolies, market structures that are the only producer of a certain product, are allowed under government watch so they do not make it impossible for entrepreneurs\u00a0in the same industry to succeed.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nMore specifically:\r\n\r\nThe elements of a mixed economy have been demonstrated to include a variety of freedoms:\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>to possess means of production (farms, factories, stores, etc.)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>to participate in managerial decisions (cooperative and participatory economics)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>to travel (needed to transport all the items in commerce, to make deals in person, for workers and owners to go to where needed)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>to buy (items for personal use, for resale; buy whole enterprises to make the organization that creates wealth a form of wealth itself)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>to sell (same as buy)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>to hire (to create organizations that create wealth)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>to fire (to maintain organizations that create wealth)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>to organize (private\u00a0enterprise\u00a0for profit,\u00a0labor unions, workers' and professional associations, non-profit groups, religions, etc.)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>to communicate (free speech, newspapers, books, advertisements, make deals, create business partners, create markets)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>to protest peacefully (marches, petitions, sue the government, make laws friendly to profit making and workers alike, remove pointless inefficiencies to maximize wealth creation).<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nThey provide tax-funded, subsidized, or state-owned factors of production, infrastructure, and services:\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>libraries and other information services<\/li>\r\n\t<li>roads and other transportation services<\/li>\r\n\t<li>schools and other education services<\/li>\r\n\t<li>hospitals and other health services<\/li>\r\n\t<li>banks and other financial services<\/li>\r\n\t<li>telephone, mail, and other\u00a0communication\u00a0services<\/li>\r\n\t<li>electricity and other energy services (e.g. oil, gas)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>water systems for drinking, agriculture, and waste disposal<\/li>\r\n\t<li>subsidies to agriculture and other businesses<\/li>\r\n\t<li>government-granted\u00a0monopoly\u00a0to otherwise private businesses<\/li>\r\n\t<li>legal assistance<\/li>\r\n\t<li>government-funded or state-run research and development agencies<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nSuch governments also provide some\u00a0autonomy\u00a0over personal\u00a0finances, but include involuntary spending and\u00a0investments, such as transfer payments and other cash benefits, including:\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>welfare for the poor<\/li>\r\n\t<li>social security\u00a0for the aged and infirm<\/li>\r\n\t<li>government subsidies to business<\/li>\r\n\t<li>mandatory\u00a0insurance\u00a0(e.g. automobile)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nThey also impose\u00a0regulation\u00a0laws and restrictions that help society as a whole, such as:\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>environmental regulation (e.g. toxins in land, water, air)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>labor regulation, including\u00a0minimum wage\u00a0laws<\/li>\r\n\t<li>consumer\u00a0regulation (e.g. product safety)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>antitrust laws<\/li>\r\n\t<li>intellectual property laws<\/li>\r\n\t<li>incorporation\u00a0laws<\/li>\r\n\t<li>protectionism<\/li>\r\n\t<li>import and\u00a0export\u00a0controls, such as\u00a0tariffs\u00a0and quotas<\/li>\r\n\t<li>taxes and fees written or enforced with manipulation of the economy in mind<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div>\r\n<h4><\/h4>\r\n<div class=\"bcc-box bcc-success\"><section id=\"glossary\">\r\n<h3>GLOSSARY<\/h3>\r\n<div data-type=\"definition\">\r\n<div>\r\n<div>\r\n\r\n<strong>Agriculture<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThe art or science of cultivating the ground, including the harvesting of crops, and the rearing and management of livestock; And while government is actively involved and provides support, its control is limited, which is good for structure.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Details: The Advantages of a Mixed Economy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>In a mixed economy, private businesses can decide how to run their businesses (e.g. what to produce, at what\u00a0price, who to employ, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>Consumers also have a choice in what they want to buy.<\/li>\n<li>In this\u00a0system, there is also less income inequality.<\/li>\n<li>Monopolies, market structures that are the only producer of a certain product, are allowed under government watch so they do not make it impossible for entrepreneurs\u00a0in the same industry to succeed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More specifically:<\/p>\n<p>The elements of a mixed economy have been demonstrated to include a variety of freedoms:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to possess means of production (farms, factories, stores, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>to participate in managerial decisions (cooperative and participatory economics)<\/li>\n<li>to travel (needed to transport all the items in commerce, to make deals in person, for workers and owners to go to where needed)<\/li>\n<li>to buy (items for personal use, for resale; buy whole enterprises to make the organization that creates wealth a form of wealth itself)<\/li>\n<li>to sell (same as buy)<\/li>\n<li>to hire (to create organizations that create wealth)<\/li>\n<li>to fire (to maintain organizations that create wealth)<\/li>\n<li>to organize (private\u00a0enterprise\u00a0for profit,\u00a0labor unions, workers&#8217; and professional associations, non-profit groups, religions, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>to communicate (free speech, newspapers, books, advertisements, make deals, create business partners, create markets)<\/li>\n<li>to protest peacefully (marches, petitions, sue the government, make laws friendly to profit making and workers alike, remove pointless inefficiencies to maximize wealth creation).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They provide tax-funded, subsidized, or state-owned factors of production, infrastructure, and services:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>libraries and other information services<\/li>\n<li>roads and other transportation services<\/li>\n<li>schools and other education services<\/li>\n<li>hospitals and other health services<\/li>\n<li>banks and other financial services<\/li>\n<li>telephone, mail, and other\u00a0communication\u00a0services<\/li>\n<li>electricity and other energy services (e.g. oil, gas)<\/li>\n<li>water systems for drinking, agriculture, and waste disposal<\/li>\n<li>subsidies to agriculture and other businesses<\/li>\n<li>government-granted\u00a0monopoly\u00a0to otherwise private businesses<\/li>\n<li>legal assistance<\/li>\n<li>government-funded or state-run research and development agencies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Such governments also provide some\u00a0autonomy\u00a0over personal\u00a0finances, but include involuntary spending and\u00a0investments, such as transfer payments and other cash benefits, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>welfare for the poor<\/li>\n<li>social security\u00a0for the aged and infirm<\/li>\n<li>government subsidies to business<\/li>\n<li>mandatory\u00a0insurance\u00a0(e.g. automobile)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They also impose\u00a0regulation\u00a0laws and restrictions that help society as a whole, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>environmental regulation (e.g. toxins in land, water, air)<\/li>\n<li>labor regulation, including\u00a0minimum wage\u00a0laws<\/li>\n<li>consumer\u00a0regulation (e.g. product safety)<\/li>\n<li>antitrust laws<\/li>\n<li>intellectual property laws<\/li>\n<li>incorporation\u00a0laws<\/li>\n<li>protectionism<\/li>\n<li>import and\u00a0export\u00a0controls, such as\u00a0tariffs\u00a0and quotas<\/li>\n<li>taxes and fees written or enforced with manipulation of the economy in mind<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<div class=\"bcc-box bcc-success\">\n<section id=\"glossary\">\n<h3>GLOSSARY<\/h3>\n<div data-type=\"definition\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Agriculture<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The art or science of cultivating the ground, including the harvesting of crops, and the rearing and management of livestock; tillage; husbandry; farming.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Autonomy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The capacity to make an informed, uncoerced decision.\u00a0Self-government; freedom to act or function independently.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><strong>Command economy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most of the economy is planned by a central government authority and organized along a top-down administration where decisions regarding production output requirements and investments are decided by planners from the top, or near the top, of the chain of command.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Benefit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An advantage, help or aid from something.
