Personal Problem Solving

Adapted from “Critical Reading and Critical Thinking” by Pirozzi, Starks-Martin & Dziewisz.

Why do we problem solve?  To make life easier, right?  What happens if you ignore your problem?

Let’s identify the six steps of personal problem solving.

  1. What is the problem?  What is there is more than one problem? Identify it!
  2. What outside sources can you gather to help you to solve your problem?
  3. What solutions can you come up with included advantages and disadvantages.
  4. Choose a solution
  5. What do you have to do to get your plan in motion.  What steps do you need to take?
  6. Looking back on your problem in the future, how did you do?  Could you have done something different?  How and why?
