College Success Offerings & Outcomes

Monroe Community College offers two types of College Success courses: COS 101 and COS 133. Students choose which course they need based on program requirements and individual academic goals. Information about the course in which you’re enrolled can be found in your course information sheet, in your class’s Blackboard space, in the College’s online catalog, and below.

College Orientation

COS 101 provides essential information about the College in a concise one-credit course. Topics include campus resources and activities, MCC technology, goal setting, time management, and college policies. Students will leave this course with an academic, career, and financial plan. One class hour. 1 credit

Upon successful completion of College Orientation (COS 101), students will be able to meet the following course learning outcomes:

1. Employ strategies that promote academic success.
2. Utilize MCC technology.
3. Access college resources and activities.
4. Create an academic, career, and financial plan.

College Orientation and Success Strategies

COS 133 is designed to help students transition successfully into college. Topics include campus resources and activities, MCC technology, goal setting, time management, and college policies. Through reflection, students will examine healthy choices, explore diversity and inclusion, expand critical thinking, and develop study skills. Students will leave this course with an academic, career, and financial plan. Three class hours. 3 credits

Upon successful completion of College Orientation and Success Strategies (COS 133), students will be able to meet the following course learning outcomes:

1. Employ strategies that promote academic success.
2. Utilize MCC technology.
3. Choose behaviors that support personal responsibility for learning.
4. Create an academic, career, and financial plan.
5. Define professional identity.
6. Practice interpersonal skills essential in a diverse, global society.
7. Solve problems using critical thinking skills.
