This Open Educational Resource supports instruction in oral communications and interpersonal communications courses. The materials are divided into the following parts:

  • Pronunciation -the essential elements for proper pronunciation in American English
  • Discussion Strategies -techniques for maintaining a discussion in an academic, social or workplace setting
  • Thematic Units-topics to be used as a basis for discussions and conversations
  • Activities-general materials used for in class instruction or assignments

Learning Objectives

The following learning objectives are used throughout this textbook:

Each thematic unit contains key vocabulary lists.  Students are encouraged to research definitions and use key vocabulary when communicating. The Vocabulary page of this text lists and activities and resources for instructors to use.
