Directions for Debate Activity:<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

  • Organize students in groups of 3; assign each student in the group a letter (A, B or C)<\/span>\r\n
      \r\n \t
    • A=Judge<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
    • B debates for the topic<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
    • C debates against the topic<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t
    • The judge selects a topic.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
    • Debaters prepare for 2 minutes.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
    • B presents (2 minutes)<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
    • C presents (2 minutes)<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
    • B rebutts (1 minute)<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
    • C rebutts (1 minute)<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
    • Judge asks questions (3 minutes)<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
    • Judge decides which side presented a stronger argument.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
    • Repeat procedure; switching roles.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

      NOTE:<\/em> The objective of the debates is fluent oral communication.\u00a0 Debate topics should not be too controversial or require extensive research.<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

      • People should live together before marriage<\/li>\r\n \t
      • All state colleges and universities should be free<\/li>\r\n \t
      • All public schools should require uniforms<\/li>\r\n \t
