Introduction to The Works Cited Page and In-Text Citations

The Works Cited Page

Your works cited page lists all the sources that you would up using in your essay. In other words, these are the list of sources from which you quoted material or paraphrased material or summarized material.

Your list of sources must be formatted in a particular way. In many college courses, you will be required to use either MLA formatting or APA formatting. Be sure to ask your instructor which to use.

In-Text Citations . . . Also Called Parenthetical Citations

In-text citations are placed in the text of your essay. They line up with the entries on your works cited page and tell your reader which source you have just quoted or paraphrased.
