Attend all lectures and come prepared to take notes.\r\n\r\n2. Write on only ONE side of your notebook paper. The other side is for expansion and\/or\r\nrevising later.\r\n\r\n3. Identify course, date, and lecture topic for each day\u2019s notes.\r\n\r\n4. Begin taking notes immediately and use short sentences.\r\n\r\n5. Use lecturer\u2019s words for important terms and ideas. Paraphrase where helpful.\r\n\r\n6. Listen for clues to indicate main points, such as tone of voice or time spent on topic.\r\n\r\n7. Listen for clues to detect the organization pattern of lecture.\r\n\r\n8. Keep notes as simple as possible. Leave space between main ideas and\/or terms. Leave\r\nblank spaces for filling in of words\/ideas missed.\r\n\r\n9. Use some abbreviations and symbols \u2013 your own are fine as long as YOU can read them.\r\n\r\n10. If examples are given for new or difficult terms and ideas, write them down, but make a\r\nnote that they are only examples.\r\n\r\n11. If you have questions, examples, additional points of your own, use them; but identify\r\nthem as yours.\r\n\r\n12. Review periodically \u2013 you can think faster than the lecturer can speak.\r\n\r\n13. After the lecture, recite, review, and revise if necessary. Revision needs to be done within\r\n24 hours of lecture, before you forget the information.\r\n\r\n14. Summarize the day\u2019s notes as an aid to memory.
