Welcome from WCC’s Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs

I am excited to welcome you to Westchester Community College and to your First-Year Seminar. By enrolling in this course you have taken an important step toward achieving your educational and career goals.

Whether your next stop after WCC is a four-year college or the workplace, you will find that your First-Year Seminar has been designed to enhance your knowledge and skills in ways that will prepare you for both these settings. In this course you will explore and plan your academic and career pathway, strengthen your learning skills, and develop effective strategies for achieving your goals. To help you become a member of the College community, your First-Year Seminar will also engage you in activities that will connect you to your fellow students and to our faculty and staff. I encourage you to get involved in the many rich learning opportunities that await you in First-Year Seminar and on the WCC campus.

Your First-Year Seminar will also introduce you to WCC’s campus resources and to the faculty and staff who are here to guide and support you along your pathway. The College has so much to offer its students. I hope you will take full advantage of its services and ask for any assistance that you may need.

I wish you all the best on your academic journey!

Sincerely,

Dr. Vanessa Morest

Welcome from WCC’s Vice President of Student faculty member holding sign reading you can do this we can help! #imavikingAccess, Involvement, & Success

Years ago, when I started my venture into higher education, I wondered if I could succeed in college. Long story short, I did succeed and I even accomplished what seemed to my 18-year-old self as impossible: a doctorate. I did not accomplish this alone. Many good, kind people supported me along the way. My first year of college, I made an intentional decision that I would surround myself and only listen to the people who would encourage my dreams and my progress. Among my sources of support were my basketball coach, the Financial Aid Director, my academic advisor, and my college counselor. These student affairs professionals aided my success and helped me to develop confidence and drive.
As a result, here I am helping students by developing programs and offering services so that a college degree can be a real possibility for you. As you start your educational journey here at Westchester Community College, remember that you do not have to do this alone. Many good, kind people stand at the ready to get your back, to offer encouragement and support, and to shine a light on your path. Doing this work is not “just a job” for the people of The Division of Student Access, Involvement & Success. We support students because doing so is our passion. We want you to succeed. If you ever doubt that you can earn your degree, come see the good, kind people in The Division of Student Access, Involvement & Success.

You can do this. We can help!

Sincerely,

Dr. Sara Thompson Tweedy

Vice President of Student Access, Involvement & Success
