\r\n\r\nBarbara Strozzi\u00a0 \u00a0<\/b>b.1619, born to an aristocratic family,\u00a0 \u00a0 was an Italian singer and composer. \u00a0Her father, Guilio, \u00a0was a librettist \u00a0and poet \u00a0and colleague of Monteverdi and Cavalli. \u00a0 \u00a0He encouraged his daughter's musical talent (arranged for her to study with composer Francesco Cavalli and creating an academy in which Barbara\u2019s performances could be validated and displayed publicly.\r\n
