Assignment: Organizing

To Do

Revisit the prewriting, working thesis, and initial evidence you’ve gathered for your essay so far. It’s time to start organizing the content into a plan, so you know what you’re ready to write and what will need more thought, research, or investigation.

  1. Determine what kind and how many body paragraphs you’ll need. Write a draft of a topic sentence for each body paragraph.
  2. Determine what kind of introduction will be appropriate for this essay. Write a draft of a “hook” statement to catch the reader’s attention.
  3. Determine what kind of conclusion will be appropriate for this essay. Write a draft of a “takeaway” or “zinger” statement to leave your reader with.
  4. Compare the sentences you’ve developed to your thesis statement. Do your topic sentences all relate directly to your thesis? If not, consider revising your thesis, and/or the topic sentences.
