The assignments in this course are openly licensed, and are available as-is, or can be modified to suit your students’ needs.
Basic Reading and Writing includes a series of customizable, scaffolded assignments that build up to four final projects:
- Success Skills Journal Project: aligns with Success Skills module
- Reading Journal Project: aligns with Critical Reading module
- Personal Analysis Essay: aligns with Writing Process module
- Personal Analysis Essay Revision: aligns with Research Process module
Each of these projects includes an overview and/or a final-draft-submission assignment page with a suggested rubric. Each project also has several smaller associated assignments, one per outcome of the module. The latter are intended to be scaffolded tasks to help the students create the final draft in stages.
All of the assignments can be previewed by clicking on the links in the table, below. If you import this course into your learning management system (Blackboard, Canvas, etc.), the assignments will automatically be uploaded into the assignment tool. As with all other aspects of this course, they are designed to be starting points toward adaptation, NOT a prescriptive set of activities that must be taught in exactly this way. Feel free to use the assignments as is, change them, or remove the ones you don’t want.
What About Grammar?
The grammar module doesn’t have a project associated with it currently. However, it offers extensive practice tasks inside the module itself. The “Try It” pages could be adapted to work as homework or in-class assignments, if desired.
