In the module Motivating Success, we provide general guidance to understand the different types of Interview questions that job candidates could possibly encounter.
Directions
For this assignment, you are going to role-play as interviewers and interviewees.
Step 1: Students will be grouped into teams of three. Assign two students as interviewers and one student as the job candidate.
Step 2: Have students review the each of the common question types. The interviewers will ask a question from ONE of the common question types:
- Get to know you
- Determine your level of Interest
- Experience
- The future
- Situational
- Behavioral
Step 3: The interviewee will have less than two minutes to answer each question.
Step 4: The individuals in the group will then switch roles. The interviewers will ask the new candidate ONE question from a different category. Choose a different category from the first round.
Step 5: The interviewee will have less than two minutes to answer each question.
Step 6: Take a few minutes to reflect on the experience with your partners.
Step 6: Write a reflection least 200 words describing the interview experience from your perspective. Answer the following questions:
- If you were an interviewer, what did the interviewee do well?
- What could the interviewee improve to present themselves as a competitive job candidate?
- If you were an interviewee, what did you do well in your job interview?
- From the interviewee perspective, what could you improve to be a competitive job candidate?
