An effective argument will have a balance of ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos (think ethics) is an appeal to the character or credibility of the speaker or writer, pathos (think empathy) appeals to the emotions of the audience, and logos (think logic) uses a well-reasoned argument to appeal to your audience’s logical side. For this discussion, we will apply what we are learning about connecting with your audience. This discussion will have three steps.
- Find a short commercial for a product on YouTube. Copy and paste the URL into your discussion post.
- Write 150-200 words describing the ethos of the commercial. Describe the use of pathos and logos using examples from the video.
- Watch the commercial and read the posts of two of your peers. Respond by building on what the other writers have already written with your analysis of the commercial in 75-100 words.
