In a peer-review situation, many students find themselves confused on where to start. They are evaluating peers on the same level, so what value could their input bring? Peer-review is an important part of writing because it adds a different insight and value to the piece of writing than the instructor’s view. Studies have shown that peers, statistically, give more “strength comments”, or comments of positive attributes, than instructors do, which only increases a writer’s ability to produce a strong final product (Sloan).
